Walk into any supplement shop in Lahore, Karachi or Islamabad and the fat burner shelf is usually the busiest one. Packs in our current range cost roughly Rs 3,900 to Rs 8,500, and the labels promise a lot. This guide explains what a thermogenic fat burner may support, how small that effect is next to your diet, how stimulant and non-stimulant products differ, and what we stock at SportsOne International, an authorised distributor of Imported Supplements in Pakistan.
One rule comes first: no fat burner works without a calorie deficit. If you are not eating below your maintenance calories, the most expensive product on the shelf will not change the scale.
What a Thermogenic Fat Burner Actually Does
A thermogenic fat burner is a supplement built around ingredients that may support a small rise in energy use, alertness or fat oxidation. Caffeine, green tea extract and capsaicin are the usual suspects. Some formulas add ingredients that may support appetite control or training energy.
What it does not do is remove fat by itself. Your body loses fat when you eat less energy than you use, and a thermogenic can only nudge one side of that equation. If you want the mechanism in more detail, read our guide on how fat burners affect metabolism and calorie burning, or see how fat burners and energy levels during a workout interact.
The Honest Size of the Effect Next to Diet
Studies of caffeine and green tea extract generally report small differences in energy expenditure, and results vary from person to person. For illustration only, imagine a product that supports an extra 50 to 100 calories burned a day. That is roughly one roti, a small biscuit or a cup of sweet chai. A moderate calorie deficit of 300 to 500 calories a day is several times larger, and you control it with your plate.
The things that move the scale, in rough order of impact, are:
- A sustained calorie deficit, which you can set using our guide on how many calories to eat daily
- Enough protein and regular strength training to protect muscle
- Daily steps, sleep and stress management
- A fat burner, as a minor add-on if at all

Stimulant vs Non-Stimulant Options
Most thermogenic capsules and powders in this price range are stimulant based, so read the caffeine line on the label before you buy. Stimulant products may support alertness and training intensity, but they are also the ones most likely to cause jitters, a racing heart and poor sleep.
Non-stimulant options include L-carnitine and CLA. They contain no caffeine, which suits people who are sensitive to it or who already drink several cups of chai or coffee. The evidence for both in healthy adults is mixed and the effects, if any, are small. Browse our L-carnitine and CLA ranges, and compare them in L-carnitine vs CLA.
Common Ingredients and What Each Is For
- Caffeine: may support alertness, training energy and a small rise in energy use. It is the main stimulant in most formulas.
- Green tea extract: contains catechins that may support fat oxidation modestly, often paired with caffeine.
- Capsaicin or cayenne: may support a small, short-lived rise in body heat.
- L-carnitine: supports the transport of fatty acids into the cells that use them for energy. Evidence for fat loss in healthy people is limited.
- CLA: a fatty acid sold for body composition support, with mixed research results.
- Yohimbine and bitter orange (synephrine): stimulants that can raise heart rate and blood pressure, so extra caution applies.

Side Effects, Tolerance and Who Should Avoid Them
Fat burner side effects mostly come from the stimulant content. The most common are jitters, a racing or pounding heart, trouble sleeping, anxiety, headaches, stomach upset and raised blood pressure. They are more likely when you take the product late in the day, exceed the label serving or stack more than one stimulant.
Dosage and timing. Always follow the serving on the pack and never exceed it. If you are new to stimulants, it is sensible to assess your tolerance before moving to the full serving. Take stimulant products in the morning or before training, and keep them well away from bedtime, ideally at least six to eight hours before you sleep. Count every source of caffeine, including chai, coffee, energy drinks and pre-workout. About 400 mg of caffeine a day is the figure commonly cited as an upper limit for healthy adults, and a fat burner plus a pre-workout plus several cups of chai can reach it quickly. See fat burners before or after a workout and our pre-workout range if you use both.
Tolerance. The noticeable kick from caffeine fades with regular use. Raising the dose is not the answer. Taking planned breaks is a safer approach, and our first 30 days with a fat burner guide explains what to expect, including fat burners with intermittent fasting.
Who should avoid them. Stimulant fat burners are not suitable for anyone under 18, pregnant or breastfeeding women, people with heart conditions, high blood pressure, thyroid problems or anxiety disorders, anyone very sensitive to caffeine, or anyone with a history of disordered eating. If you take prescription medication or have any medical condition, speak to your doctor before using a fat burner. Stop using the product and seek medical help if you notice chest pain, fainting, a very fast or irregular heartbeat or severe anxiety.
Stacking With Protein and a Calorie Deficit
The most useful companion to a fat burner is not another stimulant. It is protein. When you eat in a deficit, adequate protein helps preserve muscle, which keeps your shape and strength while the scale drops. Read how to eat enough protein in a calorie deficit, then browse our whey protein range or learn how to use whey isolate for weight loss.
A sensible, simple stack looks like this:
- A moderate calorie deficit you can keep up for weeks
- A daily protein target spread across your meals and shakes
- Three or four strength sessions a week plus daily walking
- At most one fat burner, if your doctor has no objection

Fat Burner FAQs

Fat burners may support a small increase in energy use or training energy, but the effect is modest next to diet. No fat burner works without a calorie deficit. Think of it as a minor add-on to eating less, moving more and sleeping well.
There is no single best fat burner. Stimulant thermogenics suit people who tolerate caffeine and want training energy, while L-carnitine and CLA suit those avoiding stimulants. Choose by tolerance, budget and label, and check with your doctor first if you take medication.
Common side effects of stimulant fat burners include jitters, a racing heart, poor sleep, anxiety, headache and an upset stomach. Taking them late, stacking several stimulants or exceeding the label serving raises the risk. Stop use and seek medical advice if symptoms are severe.
No supplement can target fat from one area such as the belly. Where your body loses fat first is largely down to genetics. A fat burner may support overall fat loss only alongside a calorie deficit, protein, strength training and daily walking.
